SUMMARY:Northern Overnight Road Trip
DESCRIPTION:Come and join fellow club members for a fun road trip weekend together. We have included some great scenic roads and some fun driving roads to make this run more interesting. Our destination will be Paihia, where we stay overnight and then catch the car ferry across to Okiato and drive around the coast heading back home.\nNovember – Saturday 21st-Sunday 22nd\n\nItinerary\nStarting point: Dairy Flat BP Truckstop, leaving there on the dot at 9.00 am.\nDairy Flat BP truck stop to Bryderwyn Highway 1 – 1 hr\nStop at Kaiwaka: Tulip Café for a coffee, just out of Kaiwaka on the right side of the road.\nBryderwyn Junction to Dargaville Highway 12 – 1hr\nDargaville to Opononi Highway 12 – 1 hr 49 minutes\nStop at Opononi Landing Café for lunch; parking is also out back\nOpononi to Pakaraka Highway 12 & 1 – 48 minutes\nPakaraka to Paihia Highway 10 & 11 – 24 minutes\nTotal travel time 5 hrs 1 minute\n\nBook into Accommodation.\nSuggested accommodation: Averill Court Motel. 62 Seaview Rd. Book early. Other option is to stay at the Copthorne or similar. Walk in or Park up at 6.30 pm and find somewhere to eat. Then suggest visiting a local bar for an evening drink and return to the motel.\n\nReturn drive:\nMeet again at Paihia car park and find a café to have breakfast at 8.00 am\nDepart Paihia at 9.30 am or as works for the group\nPaihia to Okiato via car Ferry Highway 11 – 20 minutes\nOkiato to Whakapara Aucks Rd – Russell Whakapara Rd – 1 hr 22 minutes\nWhakapara to Whangarei Highway 1 – 21 minutes\nLunch in Whangarei approx. 12.30 pm Kai Toi Café. 197 Lower Dent Street (note: café closes at 2.00 pm)\nWhangarei to Dairy Flat BP Truckstop Highway 1 – 1 hr 48minutes\nTotal travel time 3hrs 51 minutes\n\n\nWe have endeavoured to make the drive as interesting as possible with stops for coffee and lunch. Also, I have tried to choose stops with food options, but this has proved to be quite difficult to have a combo of good stops, parking, and destinations.\nAs far as accommodation is concerned, I have elected for an overnight motel in Paihia, as the hotels there are quite a bit dearer. If you want to choose a hotel, please feel free to do so. All our meeting points are indicated in the itinerary.\nPlease note: Please book your accommodation as soon as possible, as Paihia is a popular destination and accommodation could be booked out close to the dates.
