Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU replica race car build...

Hi Grant. Ok. I used to run a locked out distributor ( no vacuum no mechanical ) an MSD 6AL with rev limiter and a single MSD coil. Brutal, effective, went bang, couldnt ask for more at the time. This was a long time ago. Then i changed to an electromotive HPV ( good name ! ) crank fired unit comple...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU replica race car build...

Im no 280zx expert but if im seeing your photos correctly the front of the diff is mounted to the cross member which in turn is ...

Re: Datsun 280ZX IMSA GTU replica race car build...

I just solid mount mine front and rear. The front has big cap screws going up vertically through the eyes / bolt holes on the front of diff into threaded bobins welded into the cage. The rear has a large piece of 90deg angle with two vertical slots that the studs on the diff slide up into. On my car...

Give me a call 0274-976-951 regarding gearbox options. I may have something you may be interested in.

Hi Generally speaking a standard Z drive shaft will not stand up to the rigors of racing. Some are better than others having different sized universal joints but none of them are great not to mention they are all old. Contact your nearest ADL branch or reputable manufacturer and have one made. The w...

Hi i assume you may have this issue sorted my now but for future reference the easiest way to get the center bearing cap out is to wind an M8 bolt into the hole in the middle of the cap. Then with the crank in the position shown with a counter weight next to the bearing cap in the up position, place...

The main thing is to ensure you control the airflow through all the coolers with suitable shrouding and ducting.

Hey thats looking really good, nice workmanship you can be proud of that.
Its always the little bits that take all the time, but make difference to a job well done. That thing should drive really well. good numbers, should make a bunch of torque.

Hi. The value and originality of your car aside, if you want to fit flares and fill them with wheel and tire you will have to cut the guard. To give you an idea. Take the inner guard at its highest point and project a line straight out. It will end up about 75 mm higher than the current outer lip. I...

I typically havent been a fan of Redline Oils in the past but they may have changed.
For ages have just been using Castrol Syntrax Universal Plus 75-90 in everything.

Hahaha I remember this now. Sorry i shouldn't laugh. But i'm afraid your listing of the cock ups is not quite correct. The first and biggest cock up was getting David Taylor to build your Z motor ! if my memory serves me correctly it had about 3.5.1 compression ratio. Oh ok i exaggerate, but if my s...

Yep go to Autolign.
Any shop that is confused about camber needs to be given an extremely wide berth. Of course you can measure it yourself at home.

Hi Steve Firstly you are extremely unlikely to find anything online about RR3 or RR5 cam shafts. These were designations given to cams i believe were originally ground for Reg Cook Racing they were knock offs of Nissan Motorsport cams. Most of these would of been ground by Paine engine reconditioner...
