gear stick buzz vibration (resonant harmonic) at specific rpm

Post by Fixopher » Sat May 02, 2020 4:14 pm

Interesting specific mild buzz vibration in the gear shift knob, with the same note frequency as tapping the knob. It seems like a stray resonant harmonic. Knob not loose. It may be silenced by lightly resting hand on gear knob. Only occurs at a specific rpm somewhere between 2000 - 3000 and when transmission is not under load, across a very restricted rpm range. It doesn't sound transmission drivetrain mechanical. Gear stick itself is nicely steady.
Vehicle is a beloved 5k NZ new 370Z Nismo.
Can live with it but would prefer not.
Any suggestions, thoughts or insights warmly appreciated.
Thank you.
