Hi guys
Hi guys
Hi everyone, I am a big Z fan like all of you on here. I'm currently building a 300ZX that I've owned for 15 years now. She is getting a big birthday and hopefully will be ready to run at the end of the year.

Just looking at what you have done in the engine bay. If you strip the car back to bare metal especially if it is a large area it needs to have a coat of zinc etch to protect the metal from rusting under the paint or the filler. I am a Panel Beater by trade and have seen cars where this has not been done and 5 - 8 years down the track it will start to show spider web rust marks under the paint. You can actually see this on very old cars that still support the original paint, and the zinc has worn out or been used up. You will see marks in the paint that look like spider webs, its actually rust.
What happens is that the bare metal needs a coating of a sacrificial product. The zinc paint works very much like a zinc block on a boat. You can get away with it if the repair is local, as the products either side will conduct the electrical charge that causes this. But on bigger areas it is a must. Use the right product and you can bog straight over it. If you want to avoid rubbing through when you sand, you give it a few coats of spray filler first.

Up to you. Spraying an etch over what bear metal you have left will help but in time it will start rusting under the filler will take some years to show.
