From the Editor:
The year is finally underway. We have had our first committee meeting of the year. At this stage we only have the upcoming Drag event, and with several committee members taking holidays we will have to leave another event for a couple of months. Unless someone would like to organise something. I am away at the end of the week so if you are keen let me know by then and I can advertise it and get it up on our web site.
Committee:
The biggest talking point was around Committee Members, we badly need more members on the committee. If you live in the Auckland area expect a phone call at some stage.

Ellerslie Concourse and Car Show
What great weather to hold this event in. Although I was unable to attend, I had been advised that it was a great event. We had 8 cars on display I had asked for more spaces but were advised that space was at a premium and the organisers were unable to provide any more. So, 8 it was. Thanks to the guys that brought their cars along we had a good line up with most models represented. Having your car there is also a good way to get free entry, those that attended tell me that they really enjoyed wondering around and checking out all the different makes and models. Although you do need to stay there until 4.00pm. Not that I think spending a whole day in great weather with fellow car enthusiasts and being able to take a walk around the different displays to be that great of a burden. If you didn’t go remember to check it out next year. If you live out of Auckland there will always be some sort of classic car event near you, go have a look.

Just a reminder that the Wheels at Wanaka is coming up at Easter. I will be in Blenheim visiting my son over Easter, we are going to check out the Marlborough Classis Fighters Omaka, I believe they have had some cars on display in the past as well.

2 Month W.o.F. for vehicles over 40 years.
Although this hasn’t happened yet, our Ministry of Transport is finally taking a good look at this. Through the clubs contact with FoMC we have been kept you updated on their efforts to have yearly WoF’s on classic cars put through.
FoMC Reported:
Is your car over 40 years old, that is anything made before 1985, you are having to renew your WOF every 6 months when in actual fact, you have only travelled a few hundred kms or event less.
After many years of discussion and effort, we now stand on the threshold of major positive change that we have all been seeking!
On Monday 24 February, the Federation of Motoring Clubs Inc. (and other key organisations) received a letter from the Minister of Transport (Hon. Chris Bishop). The Minister’s letter formalises his media announcement on 9 February and announcing that the public submission process for 12-month WoF (all light vehicles 40 years and older, including Motorcycles) & CoF (all privately owned heavy motorhomes) is now open and closes at 5pm, April 4: Letter from the Minister of Transport.
What we now need is for Club members to take the time to send submissions to the Minister. We need interested parties to make submissions to the governing body to see this get passed. We ask that you put maximum effort into your submissions.
We have only one opportunity to influence the decision.
There are two ways you can make a submission: ) Use the online survey on the NZTA website, answer the simple questions & optionally include personal comments.
Or you can use the template for individuals. TEMPLATE for INDIVIDUALS or send one of your own making.
Suggestions for your submission: Please feel free to add your own comments and suggestions with regard to the annual WoF proposals, perhaps including personal reflections such as the savings in time and effort that the changes will mean for you, or the levels of personal expense that you invest annually on your vehicle(s), your low annual mileage, and other “stories”.
Also consider adding:
- The number of vehicles aged over 40 years you own;
- The average annual mileage of these vehicles and mileage between WoFs (illustrating there is little opportunity for wear and tear between the 6 monthly inspections);
- How often these vehicles pass their WoFs first time, and a description of their condition and your maintenance regime
- The compliance costs associated with obtaining these WoFs; e.g. the actual WoF cost; the time spent obtaining inspections, and the distance travelling to WoF inspectors especially if you live some distance from a WoF inspection centre. For example, some people have to take a day off work or travel many kilometres to the nearest town to obtain a WoF. How much would these costs reduce by if the frequency reduced to annual?

Wheels at Wanaka this Easter
This event is one of the most prestigious transport events for the South Island. It is inclusive of a lot more than cars.
There has been an interest expressed to have some representation from the Z Club at this event. Here is a chance for the southern owners to have a bit of a get-together.
